HOME ASSISTANT · ZIGBEE · PHILIPS HUE

Smart home technology.
Connected with purpose.

A platform, wireless connections and existing devices — each layer has a job. The starting point is what your building should do in everyday life.

IN MY OWN INSTALLATION

Home Assistant

The coordination layer

Bring compatible devices, sensor readings and routines into a shared view. Home Assistant is the platform used in Piotr’s own installation.

What we check

Local control depends on the actual integrations. Cloud services, network, host maintenance and backups still need a plan.

INTEGRATION OPTION

Zigbee

Wireless devices

A radio option for compatible lights, sensors and controls. A Home Assistant Zigbee network needs a supported coordinator; an existing bridge may be another route.

What we check

Zigbee is not a promise of universal compatibility. Device features, radio coverage, interference and the chosen coordinator must be checked.

Philips Hue

Lights, scenes and motion

Connect supported lights and sensors through the Hue Bridge. Home Assistant’s native integration can use Hue scenes and the bridge’s local connection.

What we check

Bridge generation and supported functions matter. Existing Hue controls and useful scenes should be tested before changing an installation.

ESPHome

Specific sensor jobs

ESPHome-based devices can connect through Home Assistant’s native integration. Piotr uses ESPHome Bluetooth proxies as part of his own setup.

What we check

Hardware, power supply, installation position, firmware and maintenance must suit the task. A proxy is not proof that a person is present.

MQTT

Messages between systems

A messaging protocol for supported devices and integrations. Piotr’s installation uses MQTT to exchange selected states and events.

What we check

A broker, access controls and clear handling of unavailable or stale readings are needed. MQTT is a connection method, not an automation platform.

Shelly

Selected energy readings

Compatible Shelly devices can provide readings or controls through Home Assistant. The personal installation monitors selected circuits, with the measurement scope kept explicit.

What we check

Functions depend on the device model. Fixed-wiring work needs an appropriately qualified electrical professional; selected circuits do not represent the whole building.

Official documentation

Names describe technologies and equipment options. They do not imply certification or a partnership with the providers.

GOOD TO KNOW

The connection is only the start.

Controls, outages, permissions and maintenance all belong in a system you can understand.

Does local mean it works without internet?

Only for functions whose devices and integrations work locally. Home Assistant, the network and power must remain available. Cloud integrations may still need internet access. We document dependencies and test important controls during outages.

Can I keep the Hue Bridge?

Yes, where the system is suitable, Home Assistant can use its native Hue Bridge integration. Existing Hue scenes and controls can be considered. We check the bridge generation and available functions on the actual device.

Will every Zigbee device work?

That should not be assumed. The coordinator, radio network and specific device features need to fit. We check existing models and test the required functions before proposing a larger purchase.

YOUR DEVICES. YOUR SCOPE.

What could work together in your building?

Start with the devices you have and one useful routine. Consultations and project discussions preferably in English.
